My holiday is going to be over soon, so everything I was supposed to do on holiday started to knocking my conscience. The whole summer I planned to pick more plants for green powder and cosmetics. Yesterday I finally did something. I managed to find pretty still fresh looking nettles, fireweeds, lady's mantles, dandelion leafs and plantains. Berrie's and birch lefs are still waiting me to pick them away. Because I was planning to try plantain salve ( I have beed super satisfied with my dandelion- and lavender salves) I picked up about a berry bucket. It's okay otherwise, but when I rinsed them with water, it was mission impossible to get them dry enough. About one third I put to warm sauna and tried to dry them threre. Just little bit I put to oven, one part was drainig on the table and one third was left to their rinsing bucket, because I didn't figure out what to do with them. Then I went to pick up rose petals of the day - ours need to pick up daily, better late night or very early on the morning, then they are fresh and crispy - but I didn't put them to dry, I made some homemade rosewater (or rose tea, if you like) and then I tried TheNerdyWife's recipe for sugared rose petals. I have never made them before, or eaten or even seen sugared flowers, but I remebered so well those sugared violets in Harry Potter, which that house elf threw all over the kitchen. Making sugared flowers is kind of a messy job, or then I don't have the skills needed for it. Taste is fine, but I would not make those every week. I use that rosewater as facial toner and eye water for my little doggie - she seems to enjoy that. TheNerdyWife thinks that you could use rosewater also innerly for dogs and I am going to try that too.
Two days ago I tried to make OHP-soap. Hmmm... it didn't go so well I expected. Mango-cocos turn out to be rather useful (but not smooth and pretty) soap, but there were airbubbles in banana-soymilk and whole soap was very soft ( I cut it too early). In the fact, there can be seen the same kind of effect as in that unsuccesful chocolatesoap I did last spring. This time I think it's banana that seeked to the middle of the soap log, at least it seemed to do so when the soap was drying. I am going to test both soaps today. There are some of them in the photo above.
